Caught by the Sea

"The boat had carried me out here, the boat would carry me back. But I had to sail it. Not just sit and look at the sails and let the boat move but actually try and figure out what was happening, try to learn what it meant to sail."

This passage is strike me because I think is some what related to me. The author love to sail. He likes to goes out and explore the ocean. Therefore, when he had the opportunity to learn how to sail he must take advangtange of it. He wants to know what it is likes when you actually took control on the sail. However, It is also happens in real life. We are not letting things goes the ways it wanted. We want it to goes the ways we want. We want to see what it is like out there so we can learn just like the author does.

What does "This passage is strike me because I think is some what related to me." mean? Did you mean "This passage strikes me because I think it is some what related to me"? Is it gramatically right?
