This sentence has two independent clauses and one dependent clause. The first independent clause in this sentence is “He crouched down toward the front of the canoe and with careful, extremely slow motions of the paddle.” The pronoun “He” functions as the subject and “crouched” functions as the verb in this independent clause. The second independent clause in this sentence is “so it was facing the other way.” The pronoun “it” functions as the subject and “was facing” functions as the verb in this independent clause. The dependent clause in this sentence is “he took almost ten minutes, ten crawling minutes to turn the canoe around.” The pronoun “he” functions as the subject and “took” functions as verb in this dependent clause. The coordinator in this sentence is “so,” and there is no subordinator. Therefore, this sentence is a compound-complex sentence.

Consider this line from the directions:

Each student should comment on four different posts with only one comment on any one blog.

So, what does that mean exactly?

Hello. I am student 9. I am here to inform you that I made a mistake in my blog for assignment 8(a) and I already changed the sentence. Sorry because you need to post a new comment on the new sentence.

This is a compound-complex sentence because it has two independent clauses and one dependent clause. The first independent clause is “He crouched down toward the front of the canoe and with careful, extremely slow motions of the paddle.” The subject-verb combination is “He” and “crouched.” The other independent clause is “so it was facing the other way” and the subject-verb combination is “it” and “was facing.” The dependent clause is “he took almost ten minutes, ten crawling minutes to turn the canoe around.” The subject-verb combination is “he” and “took.” “so” is a coordinator to connect two independent clause.
